Hand Made Original Stainless Steel Kabob Snares

When legally fishing for Dungeness crabs, the kabob snare outperforms all other snares available on the market. My research and development indicate that crabs are more attracted to bits of bait rather than fully loaded traps or cages. This phenomenon is supported by studies demonstrating that Dungeness crabs possess the ability to locate food due to their diverse diet, which includes clams, mussels, shrimp, small crabs, worms, and other scavenged items. They utilize their powerful claws to open the shells of their prey, bringing the food to their mouths with their small oral appendages.

While fishing in the surf, I discovered that crabs are more likely to become accidentally hooked when targeting fish. This behavior occurs because Dungeness crabs, like all crab species, are scavengers. They instinctively search for small particles of bait that may be floating along the bottom surface of the sand.

Consequently, I developed a new and improved invention for legally fishing for Dungeness crabs. Although many anglers may not share this information, utilizing small snares and bits of bait is crucial for successfully catching crabs in the surf. With the kabob snare, anglers can significantly increase their catch. It has undergone testing and has been proven effective in capturing the desired number of crabs.

What Size Weight & Line To Use?

You may choose any type of weights you prefer; however, I suggest not exceeding a weight of 10 ounces. For fishing line, I recommend using braided line, as it efficiently cuts through the water, ensuring your snares remain stationary. It is advisable to check your rod specifications before purchasing fishing line; a surf rod between 9 to 12 feet in length is recommended for crabbing in the surf. Your setup should accommodate a braided line with a strength of 40 to 50 pounds, and the capacity of the reel will depend on the size of both the reel and the rod. When casting, it is essential to wear gloves for protection, as braided line can cause significant injury to your fingers.

Regarding weight size, there is no need for anything heavier than 10 ounces. If your snare is consistently moving, it may indicate that you have chosen an inappropriate time and day for fishing. By consulting tide and swell predictions, you may find that weights over 10 ounces are unnecessary. Based on my experience crabbing in the surf with a fully loaded cage bait and a heavy weight, using excessive weight can lead to damaging your reel in a single day, as fishing rods are typically not designed to cast and reel in weights exceeding 10 pounds without risking rod breakage or gear stripping.

Therefore, it is essential to adhere to the specifications outlined for each fishing rod. Please review the tide predictions before heading out. If you are interested in instructional videos on reading tide and swell predictions, you can find me on YouTube under Big Z Fishing. Using heavy snares may not yield the best results; the primary objective is to place your bait in deep water, where larger crabs are found. The kabob snare is effective for reaching deeper waters while maintaining stability against strong waves.
